"As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God."

1 Peter 4:10, NKJV

Overview

This manual teaches the service gifts of Romans 12 and the gifts of the Spirit in 1 Corinthians 12 together. It sets both inside Ephesians 4, where Christ gives leaders to equip the church. It shows four layers in a believer's life: talent, service gifts, gifts of the Spirit, and equipping gifts. Then it shows how all four serve the call of God.

The study moves from foundation to placement. The first lessons cover what ministry is and the truths that govern every gift. Lessons 4 and 5 take the seven service gifts one by one. Lessons 6 to 8 cover the nine gifts of the Spirit as revelation, power and utterance, including the three uses of tongues. Lesson 9 teaches love and order. Lessons 10 and 11 help students find where they fit. Lesson 12 ends with the equipping gifts and three levels of calling: to Christ, to holiness, and to an assignment.

Every lesson follows the same order: a short summary and aim, key Scripture in the NKJV, a teaching outline with teacher notes, what it is and what it is not, common misunderstandings, discussion questions with an answer guide, and a short close. A gift discovery profile at the end helps students notice where grace already flows.

It is written for the teacher. Use it with a class or small group over twelve weeks. Lesson 12 is long and is meant to be taught over two sessions. It also suits leaders who place and train others in service.

Lessons

01 What Is Ministry?Every believer is called to serve with what God has given. In short. Ministry means using whatever God has given me to serve Him and meet the needs of others. It is not only for preachers. I am a child of God first, and I serve because I am His.
02 The Gifts of God: Four Layers, One GiverTalent, service gifts, gifts of the Spirit, and equipping gifts. In short. Every believer's life has four layers, and all the gifts come by grace from one God. This lesson sets the three lists side by side and shows how talent differs from a spiritual gift. The aim is to stop comparing and ask what God has given me.
03 Truths About the GiftsEight truths that govern every gift and guard against pride. In short. Gifts are for others, they must not be buried, and each of us sees only part of the picture. Every member has equal worth, though functions differ. A gift is never proof of maturity, so we value gifts unlike ours and watch our own blind spots.
04 Service Gifts I: Prophecy, Serving, TeachingThe first three lanes of Romans 12, with marks and watch-outs.In short. Each gift is taught by what it is, a Bible example, healthy marks, watch-outs, and how it grows. These are ways of serving, not personality boxes. Students notice where they already serve and where they need to grow.
05 Service Gifts II: Exhorting, Giving, Administration, MercyThe last four lanes, and how to tell grace from talent. In short. Paul says to give with liberality, lead with diligence, and show mercy with cheerfulness. God cares how we serve. The lesson ends by showing the natural twin of each gift, so students can tell grace from talent.
06 Manifestation Gifts I: RevelationWisdom, knowledge and discerning of spirits, handled with care.In short. The Spirit gives these gifts as He wills, for a need, and they must always be tested. The lesson teaches what to do when God shows you something: pray first, check it, and go through proper order. It also gives seven steps to seek the gifts.
07 Manifestation Gifts II: PowerFaith, healings and miracles, and how to pray for the sick.In short. These are the hands of Christ, and they are for today. Students learn how to pray for the sick in Jesus' name. They also learn what to say when healing does not come, without blaming the sick.
08 Manifestation Gifts III: UtteranceProphecy, tongues and interpretation, and the three uses of tongues. In short. Tongues have three uses in Scripture: the sign of the Holy Ghost baptism, private prayer, and a public message. Every prophecy must be judged, and the one who receives a word decides before God how it applies. Students are urged to pray in the Spirit daily.
09 Love and Order: How Every Gift Must OperateLove is the motive, and order is the setting. In short. Without love, even the greatest gift is nothing. Gifts stay under the control of the one who uses them and support the leadership of the church. The lesson ends with five conditions for the Spirit to flow through a life.
10 Discovering My ShapeGifts, heart, abilities, personality and experiences, tested by the Word.In short. God formed each person on purpose. Besides gifts, the heart, abilities, personality, and past experiences show where we serve best. Every clue is tested by the Word and by counsel, and a servant must be willing to serve anywhere.
11 Serving Through TJFinding a place to serve in the local church. In short. Ministry is meant to happen through a local church, beginning with the people nearest to us. The lesson explains primary and secondary ministry and how to know if a ministry fits. It ends with four clear next steps.
12 The Equipping Gifts and the Call of GodGifting is what you can do. Calling is what you were sent to do.In short. In Ephesians 4 the gift is a person Christ gives to make others able. Calling comes at three levels: to Christ, to holiness, and to an assignment. Gifting is what you can do. Calling is what you were sent to do.
